B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies

TRACK I: Interdisciplinary Studies 

Track I, Interdisciplinary Studies, prepares students to enter a wide variety of careers that don’t require a specific Bachelor’s degree. It’s a highly customizable pathway that includes the Hutchins core seminar curriculum, internships, independent study, and an “Area of Emphasis” designed by the individual student.

Students who prefer a broad interdisciplinary major as a foundation for their career choice or who are motivated by intellectual curiosity and wish to pursue an individualized study plan often choose interdisciplinary studies. Students in ​Interdisciplinary Studies may organize an area of emphasis within the 40 units required for the major that reflects their career plans or intellectual interests.

​Interdisciplinary Studies students may take units from other majors or 12 units from approved study abroad programs as part of their emphasis in the Hutchins major, and we strongly encourage these students to consider doing a minor in another field. Alternatively, students majoring in interdisciplinary studies will complete the 17 additional units by choosing from a wide variety of courses which include elective seminars, workshops, and study-away opportunities.

Track I Hutchins graduates find career success in a wide range of fields, including law, library science, social work, public policy, counseling, journalism, business, human resources, arts administration, education administration, high school and college-level teaching, and more.
